Current 2026 status
The non-guaranteed drawing application ran February 4–25 and the drawing took place March 4. NYRR's March 4 announcement says 240,000-plus people applied and about one percent were accepted.
Drawing and member second-chance results were delivered through NYRR accounts and email. If a hotel or flight still depends on an assumed entry, stop and verify the runner's own dashboard before a cancellation window disappears.

Know what the fee does not include
Official 2026 NYRR program pages list the race registration fee as $255 for NYRR members and $315 for non-members. Charity, Team for Climate, and travel-package entries can add fundraising commitments, program fees, hotel nights, or other contractual obligations.
All race fees are described as non-refundable. Before paying through a charity or tour operator, separate the NYRR race fee from the fundraising, package, cancellation, and transfer terms.

Deadlines for accepted runners
The next risks are operational rather than competitive. Add every dashboard deadline to a shared calendar and keep an offline folder containing acceptance, payment, identification, transport, baggage, expo, and hotel confirmations.
NYRR says runners who register by September 8 can purchase first-name printing on the bib. The 2026 cancellation deadline for general entry is October 31 at 11:59 p.m. ET, and in-person cancellations are accepted during the October 29–31 expo.

Transport, baggage, wave, and expo selections are not complete until they appear in the runner's own dashboard.
If you do not have an entry
The general drawing, member second chance, and March sweepstakes are finished. NYRR's official 2026 entry page continues to list charity and international tour-operator routes, but current availability and obligations must be checked with the official partner—not inferred from an old TripRace note.
Do not buy or transfer a bib privately. Use only NYRR and its current official programs or published partners. Keep travel refundable until the entry appears in the runner's account.

Understand cancellation before injury decides
NYRR says a general-entry runner who cancels by the deadline and did not cancel the previous edition can become eligible for non-complimentary guaranteed entry the following year. The runner must still claim that entry and pay again during the next application window.
Charity, tour-operator, Team for Kids, Team for Climate, athlete-with-disability, and pregnancy or postpartum policies differ. Read the section that matches the runner's actual entry path and contact that program directly when required.
