There is no single best marathon hotel in New York. The right room is the one that removes your hardest transfer: the trip to official transportation, the spectator's course access, or the runner's slow walk after the finish.
In this guide · 5 decisions
Choose the operating problem first
Finish-first runners should compare the Upper West Side and Lincoln Square before paying for a generic Midtown address. Ferry-oriented runners can evaluate Lower Manhattan after their official transportation choice is confirmed. Families usually benefit more from a simple reunion and a nearby fallback than from shaving minutes off a sightseeing trip.
Use the interactive board to change role and priority. It ranks five practical bases, explains the tradeoff, and opens a live Stay22 search centered on the selected area. The map is inventory, not editorial endorsement: compare cancellation rules, room layout, elevators, and the actual walk to transit before booking.
- Keep the first booking refundable until transport and expo details are final.
- Check the room's total price, including destination fees and taxes.
- Open the subway route at the hour you will actually travel, not at midday.
Compare the complete commute
Measure each hotel against four journeys: arrival from the airport, runner travel to assigned start transportation, spectator travel to the chosen course stop, and the runner's path back after the controlled finish exit.
A short map distance can hide a river crossing, station stairs, weekend service change, or long walk after the race. Write the route as transfers and walking segments rather than trusting one optimistic travel-time number.
- Runner: hotel door to the first official-transport link.
- Spectator: hotel to the first sighting and from the final sighting to reunion.
- Finish: assigned exit to reunion, then reunion to hotel.
The marathon-weekend room test
A useful room supports an early breakfast, stores luggage after checkout, and gives the support crew somewhere obvious to regroup. Ask about elevators, refrigerator access, late checkout, and bag storage before the cancellation window closes.
If two hotels are close in price, choose the one with fewer fragile transfers. Saving a little on the nightly rate can disappear in ride-hail costs, missed reservations, and a miserable post-race journey.

Family and accessibility change the ranking
A family may value a kitchenette, separate sleeping space, a lobby that works as a reunion fallback, and a simple route back from Central Park more than the earliest possible runner alarm.
Travelers who need step-free routes should verify elevators at the stations they will actually use and ask the hotel directly about the room, entrance, bathroom, and luggage setup. An accessible room label alone does not confirm the whole marathon-day journey.
- Choose one adult who can return to the hotel with children without ending the runner plan.
- Confirm elevator and room-layout details directly before the refundable window closes.
- Use an indoor reunion fallback that staff can identify by name.
Book in two passes
First, secure a credible refundable room in the best-fit area. Second, revisit after NYRR publishes transportation, expo, wave, and finish details, then compare the exact room type, total stay, cancellation date, and direct-hotel offer against live inventory.
Do not cancel the backup until the replacement confirmation is complete. Marathon-weekend pricing can move quickly, and a cheaper nightly headline can become more expensive after taxes, destination fees, breakfast, and an extra night.
- Save the cancellation deadline in the calendar.
- Compare the same occupancy, dates, and room type across every channel.
- Keep screenshots of the room rules and final confirmation.
TripRace ranks the operating fit. Stay22 supplies changing inventory and prices; the hotel supplies the final room terms.

NYRR has confirmed the Sunday, November 1, 2026 race date, the completed March 4 drawing, and the October 29–31 expo window. Detailed transportation selections, expo hours and location, wave times, viewing controls, and finish-area operations still require the final 2026 runner guide.
