TCS Sydney Marathon

August 30, 2026Marathon313 m

Sydney is the seventh and newest Abbott Major, and the only one south of the equator. You cross the Harbour Bridge inside the first 3 km and finish on the Opera House steps, with roughly 33,000 finishers around you in 2025. Two honest catches: it climbs about 313 metres, the hilliest of the Majors, so park the flat-course goals; and since it went Major, entry runs through a ballot, not open sign-up.

Better info coming — we're still verifying 3 fields on this race.

Major race decision brief

Know the catch before you book the flight.

Four facts shape this weekend: entry, course load, the start-to-finish problem, and whether your crew gets a good trip too.

01 · Secure the bib

Closed · Lottery

$229 listed entry. Treat travel as refundable until your place and any qualification requirement are confirmed.

02 · Read the load

313 m climbing

A point-to-point that crosses the Harbour Bridge inside the first 3 km and finishes on the Opera House steps, the seventh and newest Abbott World Marathon Major and the only one in the Southern Hemisphere. The harbour views are the draw, but the bridge climb, the Oxford Street drag and the Mrs Macquarie's Chair ramp stack up about 313 m of gain, the hilliest of the Majors.

03 · Solve the base

Compact race geography

Start and finish sit within roughly 2 km. A central base can simplify race morning and reunion, but road closures still decide the useful side of the course.

04 · Pack the range

11–18°C typical

Historical rain signal: 33%. Use it for packing, then switch to the live forecast inside race week.

Crew fit is 5/5. Use the spectator guide to decide whether this is a shared city weekend or a runner-first operation.

  • Race day usually sits 11–18°C, about 33% chance of rain.
